IELTS Strategies: Spelling and Number in Listening Section - 1

IELTS is an acronym of international English language testing system. This is the best test for English proficiency measurement. There are some items which are tested: listening and reading which are parts of receptive skills; and writing and speaking which are parts of productive skills. The first article about IELTS strategies that will be explained here is about spelling and number. They ar very important to be learned as in IELTS, no compromise for errors.

Familiarize yourself to hear words spelling. It might cause confusion for the test takers because in IELTS, some questions require you to write words which are spelled such as e-mail address, first and last name, and etc. International spelling code word below might help you to recognize alphabet.

There are some alphabets that might cause confusion. They are shortened as "ARIE", "P, B, D", and "J, G". Make sure you are familiar with the spelling of those letters.

Number

Numbers can also be confusing when they are spoken. Some questions might require you to write numbers on your answer sheet. Familiarize yourself with the spoken date, address number, phone number, year, and etc.

Be aware of the spelling of number '0'. It sometimes be spoken as 'zero' and sometimes as 'oh'. You have to be aware of the spelling of year. 1999 is always spoken as 'nineteen ninety nine' instead of 'one thousand nine hundred ninety nine'.
